Chairman's Message: Dr. Omar Abdelkarim
It’s my pleasure to thank all SPE members of Libya section for
electing me as SPE Chairman 2008. Being Chairman of this section gives me an honor in order to serve and support the activities of this year.
On the main time we would like to thank NOC, operating oil companies, service companies and SPE Student Chapter – Alfatah University for all their efforts and contributions to our section.
SPE – Libya section website aims to provide the SPE, members in Libya most comprehensive source of information about petroleum engineering, including news of upcoming SPE meetings, seminars and workshops, and details of support for students and the Emerging Leaders Programme for young E&P professionals.
The SPE Libya Section continued to expand its program in serving the oil and gas community in Libya during each yearly season. The program included around 10 technical presentations, and a number of social activities.
The technical program will include SPE distinguished lecturers, invited technical speakers from leading international and regional oil and gas companies as well as consultants and technical experts from the oil and gas service sector. The participation and contribution of our members is key to the success of our program.

The 2010 SPE President met with the Chairman of the Libyan NOC:
Dr. Behrooz Fattahi, the 2010 President of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) visited Libya from 20-22/05/2009. The SPE – Libya Section arranged for Dr. Fattahi to meet with Dr. Shukri Ghanem the Chairman of the Management Committee of the Libyan National Oil Corporation (NOC) and Dr. Omar A. The 2010 SPE President Speaks at the SPE Libya Section Regular Luncheon:
The SPE – Libya section has also arranged to have the 2010 SPE President Dr. Bahrooz Fattahi speaks during its regular luncheon presentation on 21st of May, 2009. Dr. Fattahi’s presentation was about the Challenges of the Future in Oil and gas industry. In his presentation, Dr. Fattahi stressed the need for human resources and technology development in the oil and gas industry. The presentation was attended by an appreciable number of SPE members representing many companies operating in Libya..... More

SPE Libyan Sub Regional Student Paper Contest:

On 3rd December 2008, The SPE – Libya section has been hosted Libyan Sub Regional Student Paper Contest along with the workshop which was sponsored by Baker Huge and LPI – Libyan Petroleum Institute
There were three winners from the eleven student participated and the winners of this sub-regional contest will be invited to participate in the Regional Student Paper Contest in Bahrain on 14 March 2009. The winners from the latter will be given financial assistance to participate in the International Student Paper Contest in New Orleans-LA; USA in October 2009............ More
SPE Workshop: Advances in Pressure Transient Well Testing Techniques
30th November – 2nd December 2008 - Corinthia Hotel, Tripoli

Among the activities of the SPE Libya section, an International SPE – ATW has been conducted in Tripoli – Libya during the period 30 Nov – 2 Dec. 2008 under the supervision of SPE – Libya section and the assistance from SPE North Africa and Middle East Regional office - Dubai .The workshop was successful and of high interest for all the participants who amounted to 100 members.
The steering Committee has had played a big role to grantee the success of the workshop, the chairman for the workshop was Dr. Omar Abdulkareim who is the chairman of SPE – Libya section and the member of Management Committee for Production and Exploration Libya National Oil Corporation – NOC.
The SPE – Libya Board would like to express its deep thanks to all the National and the IOC's operating in Libya for their generous financial support and technical contribution to have this workshop materialized..............More
SPE Libya section at North Africa Technical Conference
and Exhibition – Marrakech – Morocco 12-14 March 2008

The first North African comprehensive oil and gas conference, the SPE North African Technical Conference and Exhibition (NATC), has been conducted in Marrakech during 12-14 March 2008
NATC has been presented a multidisciplinary program that includes general and specific presentations on technical subjects related to the conference theme, “Exploration and Production Challenges in North Africa.” The conference focused on current technological issues facing the industry and innovative solutions to overcome them.
A significant presence from SPE – Libya section in that conference, the chairman of SPE – Libya section Dr. Omar Abdulkareim, program chaiman Dr. Raffa Labedi, and many attendees form different Oil Companies in Libya (NOC - Mellitah Oil & gas B.V. – AGOCO – Wintershall – Chevron –– Nalco – Schlumberger) has been attended that event...............
